monoprint
40 x 44 cm
After the tragedy of the sinking, the lifeboats were gathered together for inspection. Titanic carried sixteen lifeboats, enough for fifty two per cent of the passengers and crew on board if filled to capacity. Some of the first lifeboats were released from the ship with less than half their spaces taken up.
This print was created using a process which transfers the painted marks from a glass plate onto the paper. There are several layers of working and transfers to achieve the finished result. Therefore each print is unique as only a pale 'ghost' image is left on the glass plate after each transfer.
