I was interested in the mix of mechanical and human qualities in the metal men and the pathos of their destruction in conflict. This print came from ideas I had of future wars in which robots are recruited to the battlefield. In 2008, when I made this work, AI was still some time in the future and the humanoid robot largely science fiction. Every year has brought further developments and refinements in a race between the dominant powers. The remote use of technology is now a fact of warfare with drones and artificial intelligence aiding opposing armies. It is only a matter of time before unfeeling robots take the place of human soldiers in high risk situations. What then?
